We started the Heritage Seed Collective as a tool to help gardeners save seeds and rootstock of rare and endangered plants. It’s great that home gardening is on the rise and we’re excited to see our seedling sales increase year after year! We’re ready to help home gardeners take another step toward self-sufficiency and start saving seeds. The Heritage Seed Collective chose its first round of plant varieties from Slow Food’s Ark of Taste. Slow Food chose these varieties because they are a diminishing breed, have a cultural significance, and taste great. What they don’t have going for them may be poor store-ability, damage easily in transport, and low productivity. For a home gardener, these are surmountable issues.
